Team Ontario coaches describe Wales as the most improved player in Ontario over the past year. Wales did it all over championship weekend, including scoring goals, causing turnovers and harassing anyone who came near him with the ball. Wales is big, strong and intense and a leader on the Team Ontario defense.

In both of Team BC two wins over Team Ontario, Rees played a critical role in several phases of the game. First, Rees speed and stick skills allowed him to play a dominant role on most face offs. Second, Rees was amazing in transition. Several of his caused turnovers came at critical stages in the two games with Team Ontario and led to important goals.

Offsetting these improvements were two issues that the CLA will need to deal with in the coming year. The first is the timing of the tournament, which currently occurs during the NCAA blackout period and during the insanely busy Labor Day weekend. The other issue is the festival nature (or lack thereof) at this championship. While a few past championships (notably the one hosted in Coquitlam) have had a strong festival atmosphere, Montreal did not. The absence of concessions, signage, tournament programs, media or publicity surrounding the tournament made the event feel empty.

should be proud of this accomplishment. Bullen is a superb shot stopper, as evidenced by his 26 saves in the round robin game against Ontario. But he also has a great passing touch, can run the ball up the field and has no issue wrestling a GB away from an attackman.

Mitch Wales Team Ontario Defense (Burlington/Notre Dame High School/Robert Morris)

Gillespie was the highest impact attackman in the U 16 tournament. Gillespie can dodge and shoot, knows when to pass, and can take a hit and bounce back instantly. Gillespie speed is deceptive and his cuts left more than a few longpoles standing in his dust. Medeiros rarely if ever gets beaten in isolation and is fast on the slide. Probably led the tournament in caused turnovers among close defensemen.

Chase Fraser can score from almost anywhere. This is because he has a superb outside shot and the speed necessary to get good separation between him and his defender. Cloutier is fast, has prototypical high end skills and is completely unpredictable with the ball. Cloutier is always moving, always dangerous and scores in bunches. A heck of a lot of fun to watch, too.

Kearnen is an extremely complete attackman. He can score goals (lots of them), he can pass and he can dodge. And, he does all of the above with a great deal of creativity. But it the way he rides that really makes you take notice. Jorgenson is a finesse player with a superb work ethic. He just doesn stop and that makes him a thrill a minute player to watch.

The Canadian Lacrosse Association hosted its national field championships in Montreal last weekend. While teams from Ontario and British Columbia ultimately prevailed, there were more than a few close matches and occasional upsets along the way. In the end, British Columbia won the U 16 Championship for the third year in a row, 14 9 over Ontario, while in the U 19 Final, Ontario triumphed over British Columbia 18 9.

Penn Nike Mag Trainers For Sale State coach Jeff Tambroni has another gamer from up north coming his way in the form of Dylan Foulds. Foulds has a strong power game that allows him to use his size and speed to blast by defenders. He also has a nice touch around the net and a good outside shot.

Relative to past years, the performance on the field was strong with the U 16 team from Quebec being the biggest surprise as it muscled into fourth place in the final standings. The Alberta U 16 Team was also a pleasant surprise in terms of the quality of its play. This Team Alberta, which was comprised mainly of 15 year olds, was the first in years that seemed to be well versed in the field (as opposed to the box) game. The quality of refereeing also seemed to be on the upswing at this year tournament relative to past championships.

Now, back to lacrosse. The best part of the weekend was the play on the fields, which was superb. Many of the top players will soon be playing in the NCAA and hopefully in a few cases, at World Championships. Here are five players in the U 16 and U 19 age groups respectively who impressed at the Nationals this past weekend.
